Wayne Drew is a consultant who has undertaken many senior roles in the media industries. He has considerable experience in business, the Arts and the not for profit sector and has worked with a range of companies in developing social policy. He specialises in the promotion of CSR and social inclusion with particular reference to race & ethnicity, gender and orientation, age discrimination and physical ability.  He is at present a senior advisor to Leonard Cheshire Disability on the development of their Ability TV Media Programme and is overall chairman of the project.

For 11 years Drew was Chief Executive of the International Visual Communication Association, the professional body for leaders in ethical & effective business communication. There he developed initiatives to promote social inclusion in the media industries. He has lectured extensively on the subject and conducted seminars at such events as the Communications Directors Forum, the Essential Communication Conference and The Greening of Industry International Summit.

A leading figure in social and environmental communications, in 1997 Drew founded the IVCA’s Fellowship Award, for leaders in socially progressive communications, which is held annually at the House of Lords. Six years ago later, he founded the internationally respected Clarion Awards for ethical, effective and inclusive communications. Winners have included the late Anita Roddick, Al Gore, Leonardo Di Caprio, Kevin Spacey and P.D. James.

Prior to this, he was Communications Director for The Prince of Wales’s International Business Leaders Forum, a charity structured around CEO’s, from 50 multi-national companies, who, chaired by The Prince, promoted sustainable investment and social inclusion in Central & Eastern Europe, Asia and the transitional economies.

The Forum's 50 member companies - from Europe, America and Asia - included Diageo, SmithKline Beecham, the Coca-Cola Company, Levi's, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, KPMG, Norsk Hydro, Rio Tinto, BP-Amoco, ABB, 3M, Andersen Consulting Shell, Mitsubishi, Toyota and Honda of Japan. On an international basis, Drew worked with many of these Chief Executives, senior media executives, political figures, and representatives of the United Nations, World Bank and the British Government, on social and environmental issues. He established “International Communications Groups” on sustainable development and inclusion in six emerging economies and directed projects at: - The Ceciliahoff, The World Economic Forum, Highgrove House, St James’ Palace and the Rio Summit. He also developed the Forum’s media strategy and formulated, “The Business Case Matrix” for effective investment in sustainable development that was widely used by member companies.

For 13 years Drew was also Director of Corporate Affairs for Lord Attenborough at the British Film Institute where he championed the organisations social inclusion strategy working closely with the Afro-Caribbean Film Unit, the Disability Programme and Sexual Orientation Project.

He has created and chaired several industry groups and produced solid outcomes. These include: The International Forum on Standards and Measurement; The Intellectual Property Forum; The Corporate Responsibility Programme; The Business Leaders Forum; the Digital Media Forum; the Corporate Commissioners Group; the Interactive Television Forum; the Business Events Group, the Ethical Society Forum and the Social Inclusion Programme. For several of these he has developed codes of best practice and improved partnership action. In 2006 he published “Effective Partnerships”, a “code of practice” for the industry as a whole.

Drew has been a board member, or official representative, on: Skillset - The National Training Body for Film & Television; The Development Board of the National Film School for Wales; the Digital Content Forum; the CBI Communications Group; the National Television School Training Forum; the Genesis Initiative, and Vision Charity.

He has written and lectured on media issues and his most recent publication, “Inspiring Communications - an Examination of Effective Approaches to Climate Change Communications”,  was published in July 2008.

Drew has written plays, worked in the theatre, broadcast on media issues, produced and presented a range of programmes for the BBC, and is a regular columnist for Televisual Magazine. He has been an advisor on best social, artistic and business practice to The British Academy of Film and Television Arts; a member of The Arts Council of Great Britain; and an assessor of social and artistic policy of Riverside Studios, the Lyric Theatre, the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Bristol Watershed, Manchester Cornerhouse and six Regional Arts Boards. 

In Autumn of 2009 Wayne Drew, together with Sir David Frost, was made a Fellow of the International Visual Communication Association, at a ceremony at the House of Lords.
